In September 2021, Sound Investment completed a comprehensive AV design and integration project for the Downtown LA Proper Hotel. This historic Broadway Corridor landmark was re-imagined and updated into a 147-room destination hotel, blending past and present.
The AV systems installed throughout the hotel include Funktion-One F81s and F5s providing seamless audio coverage. One of the key challenges was to deliver high-quality audio in a historic building while respecting its architectural integrity.
Our design approach was particularly notable in the two large private suites, one of which features a pool. To elevate the audio experience in these high-end rooms, we implemented a multi-zone system using Funktion-One F5s paired with upscale subwoofers and in-ceiling speakers. This setup ensured premium sound quality with Bluetooth connectivity, offering guests a personalized audio experience.
The rooftop presented another unique challenge, as the multi-tiered dining area required speakers to be inconspicuous yet provide even audio coverage throughout the space. Our system design blends seamlessly with the environment while delivering outstanding audio performance.
Downtown LA Proper Hotel offers a rich tapestry of experiences for its guests, from two destination restaurants led by James Beard Award-winning chefs Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne to an intimate library-lounge and a city-view rooftop pool and lounge-bar-restaurant. The hotel’s two singular, one-of-a-kind suites, fashioned from the building’s former basketball court and indoor pool, exemplify its unique blend of historic charm and modern luxury.
